Project Overview

Project Start Date: 1 June 2021
Duration: 3 years
Tasks: 5

Objectives

  • To develop a protocol for bioconversion of food waste to produce PHBV and PLA for fabrication of medical textile materials via electrospinning for reduced transmissions of highly infectious novel coronavirus and other infectious diseases.
  • To develop a methodology for electrospinning of PHBV and PLA blend into non-woven medical textile materials with desired pore size and microstructure in order to reduce transmission of healthcare-associated pathogens.
  • To understand the droplet deposition and resuspension processes in order to optimize the surface design of the fabricated medical textile materials.
  • To predict and evaluate the environmental and economic costs and benefits by considering different scenarios of medical textile material development and production strategies.
